What Is Garlic?

 

Garlic is a member of the lily family, along with onions, shallots, and leeks. Its intense and unique flavor and aroma is making it a key player of cuisines around the world. It has a bulb like shape and it grows underground. Covered in an inedible papery skin, the bulb, or head as it is more often referred to, is comprised of individual sections called cloves. A flower of garlic contains about 10-15 cloves per head. Garlic can be hard to classify however you may cook with this ingredient at home, taste it in sauces and eat it in dishes like pasta, stir-fries, and baked vegetables.
